Pilates is a unique form of body conditioning that combines strength and flexibility. The founder of the technique, Joseph H. Pilates (1880-1967), used to say that he was fifty years ahead of his time. We now know he was right because the technique is a tremendous success in Europe and the States.

Every exercise in this technique is performed focusing on the centre of the body - Pilates called that the "powerhouse". The deeper layer of abdominal muscles - the transverse abdominis - is deeply strengthened. The big back muscles are also greatly strengthened, leading to a body free from chronic neck and back pain.

Pilates himself said, "In 10 classes you can feel the difference, in 20 classes you can see the difference and in 30 classes you have a new body."

Who should try Pilates?
  • Those who wish improve their performance in various sports (tennis, squash, running, golf, swimming, etc.), as well as, musicians, actors and dancers.
  • Those that have a chronic back problem or are going through rehabilitation from injury or bone fracture.
  • Those who wish to gain a balanced muscle tone, without becoming bulky.
